Biotic Study Area

WCCC Biotic Area

Partnering with the Western Pennsylvania Watershed Protection Program, the Heinz Endowments, the Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation, Bobcat of Pittsburgh, Wilkinson’s Nursery, and Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Sewickley Creek Watershed Association worked to develop a Biotic Study Area at Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood for students concentrating in biology and environmental studies. The Biotic Study Area covers approximately 3110 square yards and was designed to include flora and fauna from a variety of geographic regions to provide a living laboratory for the identification of various plants, wildlife, and insects for various biology courses taught at the college. This joint effort provides efficacy in habitat creation and conservation for outreach and educational advancement.
